What type of appointments do you offer?
We offer routine vision exams and comprehensive medical exams.
When scheduling your appointment, please specify if you are having a concern or problem, any significant eye history, if you wear contact lenses or require a contact lens prescription, or whether you desire a routine vision exam. This information will help us schedule you appropriately.
Medical Eye Exam
Medical eye exams often include a comprehensive dilated exam in order to identify and address medical eye conditions, or they may focus on a specific concern or problem. Examples of conditions we look for are cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, dry eye, eye pain, eye inflammation, eye allergies, eye infections, and eye injuries. This type of exam is a detailed medical exam to evaluate, diagnose, monitor, and recommend any treatment necessary. and may include additional testing.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends a comprehensive medical eye exam for patients beginning at age 40. The frequency of recommended eye exams depends on age, risk factors for eye disease, and the type of eye disease present.
Medical eye exams are billed to your medical insurance.
Routine Vision Exam
Vision exams are important for maintaining good eye health and vision. Like getting your teeth cleaned regularly at the dentist or seeing your primary care physician even when you are well, you can routinely have your eyes examined to determine if you would benefit from glasses or contact lenses, update your glasses or contact lenses, and to identify any medical problems that may require additional evaluation and treatment at a medical appointment.
Vision exams are indicated for patients who lack complaints and are without any medical eye conditions that require monitoring or treatment.
Routine vision exams are billed to your vision insurance.
Will your eyes be dilated?
All new patient comprehensive exams and most existing patient comprehensive exams require dilation.
In certain situations, retinal imaging may take the place of dilation. Landes Eye Associates offers the most advanced retinal imaging to all of our patients and recommends it for all patients once a year. If the doctor feels as though dilation is still indicated, he/she will encourage you to do both.
If your eyes are dilated, your vision will be blurry and your eyes will be sensitive to light for several hours. If you are not using public transportation or do not feel comfortable driving yourself, please consider arranging for someone to drive you home.
